Kids

Children can make you laugh, whilst driving along the other day we drive passed a little print shop called 'fat flyers' I said to my boy look there's a printers and he replied 'where, is it next to the travel agents for big people'. The mind of a child is amazing. He then proceeded to say rather loudly in M&S 'that man just farted!', Oh how I wanted to hide! Kid we love them.

Cheap! Not always best

I was asked yesterday why prices vary so much in the print industry it looks like some companies give leaflets away! In some cases it is true, they do! The reason for this is the misbelief that certain print companies will drive others out the market but this rarely happens it normally ends up with the cheaper printers going to the wall and starting up again as a phoenix company after having us the tax payer suffer.
In other cases the quality of the final product is not up to scratch as the work is produced on a cheaper digital machine. Then of course there is the hidden extra route, you know what I mean we have all had it at some point, once the order is placed you are then slapped with hidden charges such as delivery, the biggest culprits of cheap prices are these websites that are not even in this country and don't even tell you, you never get to talk to anyone, you just click the buttons and pay your money! The truth of the matter is you generally get what you pay for in this world. We think that we can charge a fair low cost price and still offer a quality product and as far as I am concerned the best bit is the personal service by printers, how many of those companies offer that! People tell us how nice it is to talk things through and any print company with years of experience will offer you this.

CMYK

What is CMYK is a question I seem to be asked many times! I always tell people the same thing and often wonder if it is understood. CMYK are the basic colours that build a full colour image in a brochure or leaflets, coloured text in a full colour print job also comes out of CMYK this is often the cheapest way to produce coloured work. However there is a down side to using Full colour and that is the limited colour spectrum. A good example of this is the colour orange, when printed as a sinlge ink spot colour oranges can appear very vibrant and bright, as soon as they are converted to CMYK they lose there punch and look muddy. But this in itself is a small price to pay for the price of using full colour.
Other problems can occur when people try to print from microsoft software such as Word and Excel, they may look good on your little printer but when printed by a professional print company the photos in the document can look flat and dull, the reason for this is that these programs are not meant to be used for commercial printing and use the RGB colour spectrum. A print company that knows the business can usually overcome this problem.
The colours that make up CMYK are C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yellow) and K (black). Why does K stand for black?

It's Friday

Is has been a funny week, Colin in the factory has been trying to get a towbar fitted to his Volvo something you would have thought should be quite easy, but it appears the modern garage give up far too soon. After only 45 minutes they were on the phone telling him that they were unable to undo a bolt and were giving up because it was taking too long! At Kenads I would imagine like most printers we can spend hours sorting a job out until we are happy with it. How many times do we print a wallet or folder only to find it is marking somewhere on the machine and then spend time going over every inch of the press to find the problem to ensure the client is happy with the final product. This week seems to have been a week of folders so not a lot has been done in the last few days! Why do designers love heavy boards and solid inks!
Well it is now Friday, twelve more hours and then it is the weekend. Yippeee!

Another Day

Well this is it! the start of the Kenads blog. Having never done this before I am not too sure what to write. The word is paper prices are going up yet again along with every other product we use. When will it stop! Of course everyone still expects cheaper prices. When will the madness stop.
But on a brighter note we have work for all the machines and things seem to be going well, jobs going out on time even had a client say thankyou yesterday!!!
